Loquat

Loquat, subtropical evergreen tree (Eriobotrya japonica) of the rose family that bears an egg-shaped orange or yellow fruit. Loquats grow from 18 to 25 ft (5.5 to 7.6 m) tall and have fleshy, tough-skinned, many-seeded fruits borne in loose clusters. Most widely found in Japan, the loquat was introduced to the United States in 1784. Its fruit has a pleasant tart flavor and can be eaten raw, cooked, or in the form of jelly.
