Lord's Prayer
Lord's Prayer, or Our Father, chief Christian prayer, taught by Christ to his disciples (Mat. 6.9–13; Luke 11.2–4) and prominent in all Christian worship. Addressed to God the Father, it contains seven petitions, the first three for God's glory, the last four from bodily and spiritual needs. The closing doxology, used by most Protestants (“For thine is the kingdom” etc.), was added to the Roman Catholic version after the Second Vatican Council (1962–65).
