Los Alamos



Los Alamos, town in New Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) northwest of Santa Fe. It was selected as the site for a scientific laboratory where the world's first atomic and hydrogen bombs were developed (1942). Government research continued at this location until 1962. The Univ. of California currently operates The Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory. The laboratory has been designated as a national landmark.
