Lucan



Lucan (Marcus Annaeus Lucanus; A.D. 39–65), Roman poet, nephew of Seneca, best known for his Bellum civile, an epic literary work on the clash between Julius Caesar and Pompey. A protégé of Nero, he eventually aroused the latter's jealousy. Lucan joined the Pisonian conspiracy against Nero and when this failed, committed suicide.
