Albert John Luthuli
Luthuli, Albert John (1898–1967), Zulu chief and political leader in South Africa. As head of the African National Congress (ANC), he won the 1960 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end apartheid in South Africa through non-violent passive resistance. In that same year, the ANC was banned and Luthuli's activities were severely restricted by the South African government.
