Lydia

Lydia, ancient kingdom of western Asia Minor, of legendary wealth. The Lydians invented metal coins in the 7th century B.C. Sardis was the capital and cultural center of this growing empire until the defeat of Croesus (546 B.C.) by Cyrus of Persia.
