Lyon
Lyon (pop. 422,400), city in southeastern France. Capital of the Rhône department in the Rhône-Alpes region, it is the third largest city in France. During Roman times, Christianity was introduced to the Gauls from Lyons. Since the 16th century, Lyons has been known for its textiles, and today it is a leading producer of silks and rayons. It is also known for being the center of the French Resistance during the Nazi occupation (1940–44).
