Madrigal



Madrigal, poetic part song for 2 or more voices singing separate melodies. Originating in 14th-century Italy, it reached the height of its popularity in the 16th century, through the works of Monteverdi and Gesualdo. The Triumphes of Oriana (1601) is a famous collection of English madrigals by 21 composers.
