Magnetic resonance imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), technique which produces images of tissues inside the body and allows physicians to identify abnormal tissue without surgery. MRI enables physicians to see through bones and organs using a powerful magnet, radio waves, and a computer, and has been used to detect tumors, diseases of the circulatory system, birth defects, and certain injuries. The examination is supervised by a radiologist though no radiation is involved.
