Norman Mailer



Mailer, Norman (1923– ), U.S. novelist and journalist. After the great success of his first novel, The Naked and the Dead (1948), he became a critic of the American way of life. He combines journalism, fiction, and autobiography, as in his collection Advertisements for Myself (1959). He has been awarded 2 Pulitzer Prizes, one for the Armies of the Night (1968), an account of the 1967 Washington peace march, and the other for The Executioner's Song (1979). Other works include Though Guys don't Dance (1984), and Oswald's Tale: an American Mystery (1995).
