Strait of Malacca

Malacca, Strait of, important sea passage that links the South China Sea and Indian Ocean. Singapore is the chief port located on this 500 mi (800 km) strait, which flows between Sumatra and the Malay Peninsula. The width of the channel varies from 30 to 200 mi (50 to 320 km).
