Georgi Maximilianovich Malenkov



Malenkov, Georgi Maximilianovich (1902–88), Soviet premier 1953–55, after Stalin's death. Beginning as an aide to Stalin, followed by entrance to the politburo and deputy premiership (1946), Malenkov as prime minister curbed the power of the secret police and promoted reconciliation in his foreign policy. He was replaced by Bulganin in 1955, expelled from the Presidium in 1957, and from the party in 1961.
