Manitoulin Islands

Manitoulin Islands, chain of islands situated northwest of Georgian Bay and separated from the northern shore of Lake Huron by the North Channel. Manitoulin is the largest of the islands as well as being the world's largest inland island, with an area of 1,067 sq mi/2,754 sq km. Manitoulin contains many lakes and is connected to Ontario by a causeway and ferry service. The Manitoulin derives from Manitou, the great god of the Chippewa.
