Manslaughter

Manslaughter, in U.S. criminal law, unlawful but unpremeditated killing of another human being. In many states 2 kinds of manslaughter are defined: voluntary, where injury is intended, as in a killing arising out of a quarrel; and involuntary, where there is no such intent, such as death caused by reckless driving. The penalty for manslaughter in the United States ranges from 1 to 14 years in prison.
