Mariposa lily
Mariposa lily, or sego lily (genus Calochortus), tuliplike member of the lily family. Taking its name from the Spanish word for butterfly, mariposa lilies bloom in spring in the sandy soil of Western United States. They are perennials, growing from bulbs, and range in color from white or purple to yellow or orange. There are about 60 species, 40 of which are native to the U.S.
