Pierre Marivaux
Marivaux, Pierre (1688–1763), French playwright and novelist, best known for his witty comedies. Sparkling dialogue is still termed marivaudage. Among his works are the comedy The Game of Love and Chance (1730) and the novel The Successful Peasant (1735–36).
