Market research, process of gathering and analyzing information for marketing decision making. It dates back to the early 20th century in the United States before spreading to Europe and Japan. Business employs market research to identify customers (markets) for its products, to analyze their needs (through such techniques as polls and surveys), and to suggest strategies to develop interest among those customers for their products.
