Mars



Mars, in Roman mythology, the god of war. He was originally the god of agriculture, but later was identified with Ares, the Greek god of war. Second in importance only to his father, Jupiter, Mars had several children by Venus and was also regarded as the father of Romulus, legendary founder of Rome. His altar on the Campus Martius was the scene of festivals in Mar. (his month) and Oct.
