John Masefield



Masefield, John (1878–1967), English poet, novelist, and playwright. As a youth he served on a windjammer ship, and love of the sea pervades his poems. He won fame with such long narrative poems as The Everlasting Mercy (1911), Dauber (1913), and Raynard the Fox (1919). In 1930 he became poet laureate.
