Mason and Dixon's Line
Mason and Dixon's Line, Mason-Dixon Line, traditional dividing line between the northern and southern states of the United States. Surveyed by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon in 1767, the line formed the east-west boundary between Pennsylvania and Maryland and the north-south boundary between Maryland and Delaware. In 1779 the east-west line was extended to form the boundary between Virginia and Pennsylvania.
