François Mauriac



Mauriac, François (1885–1970), French author. A nonconformist Catholic, his novels concern man's vulnerability to sin and evil. Winner of the 1952 Nobel Prize for literature, his works include The Desert of Love (1925), Thérèse Desqueyroux (1927), and The Knot of Vipers (1932).
