André Maurois



Maurois, André (Émile Herzog; 1885–1967), 20th-century French author. A soldier in World War I, his earliest works were novels about his war experiences, including The Silence of Colonel Bramble (1918) and Les Discours du Docteur O'Grady (1921). Maurois is known for his biographies of authors Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, George Sand, Victor Hugo, and Alexandra Dumas and politicians George Washington, Benjamin Disraeli, and Chateaubriand. His Memoirs: 1885–1967 was published posthumously in 1970.
