Carson McCullers
McCullers, Carson (1917–67), U.S. writer. She is best known for her novels portraying small-town life in the South, and particularly for her lonely, isolated characters, as in The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1940) and Member of the Wedding (1946; adapted by McCullers as a play, 1950). Her Collected Stories were published posthumously (1987).
