Floyd Bixler McKissick
McKissick, Floyd Bixler (1922– ), African-American political leader. In the 1960s he was the national chairperson and director of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and one of the leading advocates of Black Power. McKissick and other Black Power proponents urged African-Americans to take control over the destinies of their own communities and to foster a greater sense of pride in their social and cultural heritage.
