Aimee Semple McPherson



McPherson, Aimee Semple (1890–1944), U.S. evangelist, famed for her flamboyant preaching. She worked as a missionary in China, then returned to the United States to become an itinerant preacher and faith-healer. She opened the Angelus Temple (1923) and founded the International Church of Foursquare Gospel (1927), both in Los Angeles. She was involved in numerous legal actions, including a sensational one for fraud, of which she was acquitted.
