Medicaid

Medicaid, U.S. government-financed system of medical aid to low-income people under 65. It was introduced in 1965 along with the Medicare legislation. The federal government pays from 50% to about 80% of the costs for anyone eligible, as determined by each state separately. To participate, a state must meet the standards of the federal government.
