Giacomo Meyerbeer
Meyerbeer, Giacomo (1791–1864), German composer. His romantic and spectacular operas, with librettos by A.E. Scribe, set the vogue for French opera. Most famous are his Robert le Diable (1831), Les Huguenots (1836), and L'Africaine (1865). Meyerbeer's music influenced that of Richard Wagner.
