Hartmut Michel



Michel, Hartmut (1948– ), German biochemist, head of biophysics division (Frankfurt am Main) of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry (1987– ). Michel, Johann Deisenhofer, and Robert Huber shared the 1988 Nobel Prize for chemistry for their study of the structure of protein molecules involved in photosynthesis. Michel crystallized the proteins in 1982, enabling Deisenhofer and Huber to analyze them.
