Microbiology

Microbiology (formerly called bacteriology), study of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoans, yeasts, and algae. Microbiology includes anatomy, physiology, genetics, taxonomy, and ecology, along with branches of medicine, veterinary sciences, and plant pathology, since many microorganisms are disease causing by nature. Microbiologists also play an important role in the food industry, particularly in baking and brewing. In the pharmaceutical industry, they supervise the production of antibiotics.
