Moabite stone
Moabite stone, ancient, black-basalt stone containing writing in Hebrew-Phoenician characters. Probably inscribed about 865 B.C., the stone stands 3 ft, 8 in (112 cm) high and 2 ft, 3 in (68 cm) wide. Its inscription narrates the deeds of Mesha, king of the Moabites, in his wars against Israel and against the Edomites.
