Joseph Michel Montgolfier
Montgolfier, Joseph Michel (1740–1810) and Jacques Étienne (1745–99), French brothers noted for their invention of the first manned aircraft, the first practical hot-air balloon, which they flew in 1783. Later that same year Jacques Montgolfier assisted Jacques Charles in the launching of the first gas (hydrogen) balloon.
