Moral Majority

Moral Majority, strictly, the U.S. religious-political organization headed by the Rev. Jerry Falwell; loosely, the entire religious constituency of the New Right. In this second sense the Moral Majority is the same as the New Christian (or Religious) Right. Led chiefly by TV evangelists, it represents fundamentalist Christian beliefs and proved a potent force in the 1980 presidential and congressional campaigns, especially in the Sun Belt and West.
