William Thomas Green Morton
Morton, William Thomas Green (1819–68), U.S. dentist who pioneered the use of diethyl ether as an anesthetic (1844–46). In later years he engaged in bitter litigation over his refusal to recognize Crawford W. Long's prior use of ether as an anesthetic.
