Mountain ash



Mountain ash, name for various trees and shrubs of genus Sorbus, rose family, native particularly to high elevations in the Northern Hemisphere. The leaves are compound, with leaflets opposite each other on the leaf stem. The white clustered flowers develop into clusters of orange or red berry like fruit. The mountain ash provides food for wildlife, shade, and wood for implements. The American mountain ash (S. americana) grows in eastern Canada and the United States.
