Mourning dove

Mourning dove (Zenaida macroura), bird belonging to the pigeon and dove family. Native to North America, it measures about 12 in (30 cm) long and has a long, tapered tail. It is predominantly grayish brown, with pink and violet marks on its neck and a white border on its tail. Its name is derived from the seemingly mournful calling sound it makes. In the winter, mourning doves migrate south to warmer climates.
