Donald Barthelme



Barthelme, Donald (1931–89), U.S. short-story writer and novelist noted for his innovative techniques and surrealistic style. His works include the novels Snow White (1967) and The Dead Father (1975); the children's book The Slightly Irregular Fire Engine or the Hithering Thithering Djinn (1971), for which he won a National Book Award; and Sixty Stories (1981).
