Count Basie
Basie, Count (William Basie; 1904–84), U.S. jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. Count Basie's big band, which included some of the outstanding jazz musicians of the time, brought the ragged rhythm and improvisational verve of jazz into the smooth swing era of the late 1930s and 1940s.
