Henry Ward Beecher

Beecher, Henry Ward (1813–87), U.S. clergyman, orator, lecturer, author, and abolitionist. The preacher of Plymouth Congregational Church (1847–87) in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was an advocate of women's suffrage and of the theory of evolution.
