James Gordon Bennett



Bennett, James Gordon (1795–1872), Scottish-born U.S. newspaper publisher and editor, pioneer of modern news reporting. In 1835 he launched the sensationalist New York Herald, the first to print stock market items and use the telegraph. His son, James Gordon Bennett (1841–1918), sent H. M. Stanley to find David Livingston (1869) and founded the New York Evening Telegram (1869) and the Paris Herald (1887).
