Berkeley
Berkeley (pop. 102,724), California city on the east side of San Francisco Bay. Berkeley is the home of several renowned schools including the University of California's main campus. Incorporated in 1878, the city is named after George Berkeley, a bishop and philosopher. Its major industries include printing and chemical, equipment, and metal manufacturing. During the Vietnam War Berkeley was the site of major antiwar protests.
