Jean Baptiste le Moyne Bienville Sieur de
Bienville, Jean Baptiste le Moyne, Sieur de (1680–1768), French explorer and naval officer who founded New Orleans. Born in Canada, he helped to colonize French Louisiana, which he governed at various periods between 1701 and 1743.
