Ambrose Gwinett Bierce



Bierce, Ambrose Gwinett (1842–1914?), U.S. short-story writer and satirical journalist. His works include In the Midst of Life (1891), Can SuchThings Be? (1893), and The Devil's Dictionary (1906), a compilation of sarcastic definitions. An adventurer, he distinguished himself in the Union army during the Civil War. He disappeared without trace during the Mexican Revolution of 1913–14.
