Larry Bird



Bird, Larry (1956– ), U.S. basketball player. Known for his excellence in all phases of the game, he is considered one of the best players of all time. The 6-ft 9-in (206-cm) forward joined the Boston Celtics of the National Basket-ball Association (NBA) in 1979 and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Bird's other achievements include winning 6 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards—3 regular season (1984, 85, 86), 2 playoff (1984, 85), and 1 All-Star (1982)—and leading the Boston Celtics to 3 NBA Championships (1981, 84, 86).
