Black Sox Scandal
Black Sox Scandal, ironic name for 1919–20 baseball scandal that led to radical reorganization in the administration of the sport. It broke out when Edward Cicotte of the Chicago White Sox confessed to accepting a bribe to influence the outcome of the 1919 World Series. He named 7 other team members allegedly involved. All 8 were suspended for a season but were cleared of fraud.
