Amelia Jenks Bloomer
Bloomer, Amelia Jenks (1818–94), U.S. social reformer. She edited (1848–54) The Lily, a journal advocating temperance and women's rights. In a search for more practical clothes for women, she introduced the baggy pantaloons that came to be known as bloomers.
