Bobsledding, winter sport pitting 2- or 4-person sleds against each other down a steep incline. Capable of traveling at 90 mph (145 kmph), bobsleds negotiate a twisting course with steep embankments ranging from 1,312 yards (1,200 m) to 1,640 yards (1,500 m) long. The team posting the fastest times after 4 runs is the winner. Bobsledding was invented in Switzerland around 1890.
