Heinrich Böll
Böll, Heinrich (1917–85), German author and winner of the Nobel Prize for literature in 1972. His books are bitterly satiric, exploring themes of despair and love in post-World War II Europe. Important among his works are Billiards at Half Past Nine (1959) and The Clown (1965).
