Jacques Bénigne Bossuet



Bossuet, Jacques Bénigne (1627–1704), French prelate and historian renowned for his eloquence as an orator, especially his Funeral Orations (1689). He was bishop of Condom (1669–71) and of Meaux (from 1681). He wrote the famous Discourse on Universal History (1681) and Treatise of the Knowledge of God and One's Self (1722).
