Paul Bowles



Bowles, Paul (1910– ), U.S. author and composer living in Morocco. He is known for his exotic novels and short stories of alienation, despair, and psychological horror. His works include The Sheltering Sky (1949) and Collected Stories: 1939–1976 (1979). His wife, Jane Auer Bowles (1917–73), was also a writer. Her works include the novel Two Serious Ladies (1943) and the play In the Summer House (1954).
