British Cameroons
British Cameroons, former UN trust territory on the west coast of Africa in what is now Nigeria and Cameroon. After World War I the former German colony of Cameroons was divided between France and Britain. After World War II both became UN trust territories. In 1960, French Cameroons became independent, and in 1961 the southern part of British Cameroons joined it to form the Republic of Cameroon. The northern part was incorporated into Nigeria.
